Well from my point of view i don't think i'm taking any of it too seriously. That doesn't stop me from finding Avatar extremely overrated, and 2012 the worst film of last year, and possibly one of the worst I've ever seen. (2012 was so bad it's the only time I've ever left the cinema before the end of a film. )
Avatar was quite enthralling visually for 45mins. +The novelty wore off quickly though, and by the 1.5 hour point i was dying for the film to end to end. I just found it dull. Trust me, i was just there for the ride for both of those films, but neither did it for me.
As you can see from my earlier post, Inglorious Basterds was my favorite film of last year, so needing a "deep and powerful story" isn't exactly high on my list of must haves when it comes to whats makes a good movie. (though a great story and something that doesn't insult your intelligence is always a nice bonus)
The real test of what makes a good film for me is whether I'll buy it on DVD/Blueray having already seen it, and will it get many repeat viewings over the years. 2012 i have no desire to see ever again... Avatar i certainly wont buy. It has to be seen on a huge screen, preferably IMAX in 3D. That is what makes it the "experience" it is. I think once people sit at home and watch it on their TV's they will see how very average a film it really is.
Calm down Boris. Why is it so hard for you to understand that a lot of people didn't rate Avatar? No ones being bitter, we just though it was a highly overrated film. We cant all be the same you know.
I haven't seen Fern Gully, but Avatar it seemed to be a complete rip off of Dances With Wolves with lots of special effects to me.
I have to agree, for sheer entertainment Inglorious Basterds was the most entertaining move of 2009 for me.
The top 5 films i saw last year (not necessarily films released in 2009) were, in no particular order:
Inglorious Basterds
Session 9
Moon
El Orfanato (The Orphanage)
Oldboy
with honorable mentions going to
District 9
Slumdog Millionare
Frost/Nixon
The Hurt Locker
Croupier
The Escapist
The Wrestler
Gran Torino
Watchmen
Zombieland
Taking Woodstock
I'm sure I've missed some gems out..i watch so many movies i cant remember what I've seen
Biggest stinking turd of a movie goes hands down to 2012. Utter ,utter crap with no redeeming features whatsoever.
Not a film, but i finally got round to watching all five Seasons of The Wire, usually 2 or 3 episodes at a time. It plays out like a 60 hour film anyway Just the best TV series I've seen.
Change ISP. I was with Plusnet for a few years and it was nothing but hassle with every sim i raced. They have the worst traffic shaping system I've ever come across.
After spending many more hours than a customer should have to, getting port info for all the sims i used in order for them to allow it on their system they would eventually (after several weeks usually) sort things out, only for things to go tits up again withing a few months. LFS was the worst case for the reasons you've stated, so many different ports being used.
I cant speak for other ISP's on their shaping, but since I've moved to Virgin I've had no problems with any game. As far as i know they don't shape traffic, they just throttle your bandwidth if you use more than the FUP allows depending on your package, which i have no problem with as i never get close to the limits.
(Basically on their 20Mb cable package there is no traffic shaping. You are limited to 7GB usage between 10am and 3pm and 3GB between 4pm and 9pm. Outside of those hours you can max you connection out 365 days a year and they wont bat an eyelid. If you can work within those limits then it's a perfect service in my experience. I've never seen anything less than 18Mb speeds at any times, never had no service and never had a dropped connection. They obviously have plenty of capacity, unlike Plusnet)
Plusnet had decent customer support guys and they were helpful enough, but the system they work with was more hassle than it's worth. I've now had a completely hassle free 14 months with Virgin and it's an absolute pleasure to use the internet again. It just works 24/7 whatever you are doing. I've had no cause to contact their support for anything since I've been with them. Plusnet were bad for my health. I spent more time in their support forums than gaming it felt like. They are (were? not checked their prices lately) also very expensive for what you get.
If you want hassle free gaming then I'd seriously look into another provider. Do your homework though. I'm sure there are many ISP's that are as much hassle as Plusnet out there.
Yup, I've just watched it as well. This is more like my kind of movie. I'm going to watch it again tomorrow. I love films that make you want to watch them again straight after seeing them.
There is indeed very little pickup racing going on, but head over to Race2Play in the new year if you want some top quality league racing. They are running championships in all the cars except the FF1800. The F2000 and FTarget leagues have really taken off. More and more people are discovering nKPro and race2play are doing a great job of promoting it and organizing races.
As for the OP. It's obvious that the old school LFS racers have all moved on to sims that deliver what LFS promised to be but never quite made it. It has now fallen behind the competition by a considerable margin imo.
There is a new crowd here these days that don't particularly want the most realistic and "hardcore" (apologies for that expression...i cant think of another ) sim experience. All you have to do is look at the names in iRacing and nKPro and you'll find all the old, good LFS racers.
Having fun in sim racing means good, clean racing in cars with the best physics (and some nice visuals as a bonus) doesn't it? That's why a hell of a lot of the old school have moved on.
I've no doubt that a visual makeover, the new tire physics, updated track surfaces and some new content would bring a lot of them back. Until then your stuck with the current LFS crowd and it's dated game mechanics. Live with it or find yourself another sim.
..and lets not forget the complete wankers that made this family's lives such hell that they to leave their old home.
It makes you ashamed to be British when your fellow countrymen (and women) treat people like they do.
Don't like the council paying for them to live in such houses? Don't drive them out of the accommodation they are already in then.
Anyone see Panorama a few weeks ago where a Muslim couple went and live on the Southmead estate in Bristol for a few weeks and filmed it all with hidden cameras? It was an absolute disgrace the way they were treated.
Quite frankly I'd be more than happy if they got rid of all the racist chav scum on the estate and filled the place up with asylum seekers.
You loved it because it was a great piece of entertainment i guess It had everything, a good story, drama, action, comedy, the usual Tarantino cartoon violence, some outstanding performances. Every scene with Christoph Waltz was amazing.. a top quality movie villain if ever there was one.
I understand people have different taste, but for BlueFart to find a bit of fiction disrespectful is beyond me. I have no idea why he even watched the movie. It's a Tarantino film... what was he expecting?
Simple answer.... No. That Hillclimb that's doing the rounds is a really early version (based on 1.02 or very early 1.03 code) Theres no way for it to work in v1.1
Whilst it was nice to see the car and track after all this time i don't bother driving it. I'm happy to wait for the proper updated version in v1.2, It'll be loads better.
